Mmmm… What can I say? This is definitely a win-win! Rescue Chocolate is both a delicious and compassionate product, for anyone with a sweet tooth. From each piece of chocolate sold, 100% of net profits are donated to rescue organizations around the country. I am totally in love with this philanthropic and incredibly generous concept, and can’t wait to sink my teeth into the decadent treat! Each flavor focuses on a different issue, and is completely vegan – Yum!

First of all, I have to thank all our loyal readers, who obviously never doubted us. Wow, what an honer, having so many people interested in what we have to say, and wanting to participating in our photo contest! Thank you all!
Second, I wanted to apologize for being absent for a little while now. A couple of months ago, we decided that it was time for a face-lift, which turned out to be an incredibly overwhelming and extremely time consuming project… Here I was, thinking that it would be a simple and painless makeover, but as it turns out, things don’t always go according to plan. I hope that this will be nothing but a laughable memory, but when you’re the “brain” behind the operation, even the tiniest details can be incredibly stressful, and keep you up at night… Dogs are my passion, and naturally I want the best for my baby (aka as my blog).
From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank everyone who bothered visiting during our messiest construction time! You’ll never know how much it means to me…. Also, I can’t wait to see dog enthusiasts entering our monthly photo contest. It is such a treat, seeing all the creativity that each dog owner has to share! You guys are the best, thank you so much!
Love & slobbery kisses – Rugpisser
“Me is so sorry and ashamed… I didz not mean to keep you waiting. My momma was stressed, but I tolds her that everything would be okay, and people would appreciate the new and improved look! I was right, humans are nice!”
Does your dog love to snooze in your dirty laundry or pile of clothes? Do you own a few old sweaters, pants, shirts or blankets, that you were planning on throwing out? Why not recycle your old clothes, by stuffing a Molly Mutt duvet, and voilá – a stylish and practical new dog bed for your buddy!
I find this to be a super cool concept, because most of us dog owners know, how difficult it can be to wash a traditional dog bed. They typically don’t fit in the washer and take an eternity to dry! In my experience, it’s an all-around hassle, which is why I only wash the “insides” in the summer. After washing the beds, I hang them outside to dry, where they slowly drip all day. I don’t mind waiting, it’s more the interior of the bed that seems to be a problem. The “guts” gets all knotted up, and the bed becomes less and less comfortable over time… A Molly Mutt duvet, however, is a breeze to wash! Just grab the bed, dump the insides, and once it’s dry, simply put it back together and give your dog a clean dog to nap on! Feel like a makeover? Simply cover your dog’s old bed with a Molly Mutt duvet, for a fresh and sophisticated look! It’s a definitely an eco-friendly and innovative way of bringing a little style into your home!
Congratulations to Skater Boy, for being a super duper cutie! “Henson” was named after the great Jim Henson, the famous film director and award-winning television producer. He was the mind behind Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. I have to say, that this adorable Pomeranian reminds me of a toy-like puppet! How often do you run into a punk dog, rocking a skateboard? LOL! Henson is the winner of our goodie basket, consisting of a comfy dog bed to snuggle in during these cold nights, various dog treats & biscuits, and a fun toy!
How about a cool (and very affordable) gift for the cute fashionista, who doesn’t mind making a conscious statement? Spread the word, while adding something unique to your wardrobe! Get your ADOPT tee at Forever21.com for under $16!
When it comes to animal awareness, I prefer something a bit more thought provoking. Let’s face it, sugar coating the truth, is just not going to get us anywhere! How about a bolder I’M A LOVER, NOT A FIGHTER tee for under $15? If you ask me, this is a pretty sweet deal! Without the coat of sugar…=
There is probably nothing sweeter than a puppy or kitten, most of us can agree on that. Baby animals are adorable and tempting, but they are more than a cute face. The idea of surprising the kids with a pet may sound appealing, but have you considered the years of commitment you are taking on? Or that the puppy will grow into a much larger version of what you plan on bringing home? Are you prepared to invest in proper veterinary care, which can be especially costly during the first year, when the puppy will have to get vaccinated, dewormed and spayed or neutered? And what about a wholesome diet? Now that the pet is part of your family, you probably want to purchase a good holistic pet food, that does not consist of artificial colors, flavors, additives or preservatives. The better the ingredients, the healthier the dog, which may very likely save you money in the long run. But if you can already picture yourself complaining about food expenses, you are clearly not ready for a new family member!
Young dogs are typically full of energy and require training a lot of attention. Don’t forget, someone has to potty train your puppy, but before you accomplish results, you may have to wake up in the middle of the night, just to take the dog outside (and unless you live in a warm state, that means going out in the freezing cold). There will be times where the puppy has an accident in the house, or chews on a pair of expensive shoes, all which can be incredibly frustrating to the dog owner. The kids who promised to take care of their new companion, may no longer be excited about their pet, leaving you with the extra work. How long do your kids normally appreciate their new toys for, before getting bored?
In addition to your already hectic schedule, you now have to rush home, in order let your dog outside and hopefully prevent accidents in the house. Dogs are pack animals, and it’s only natural for them to want to be with their pack members – you! They do not enjoy spending 8-10 hours waiting for their human to come home. Many of us come home exhausted, with no energy to fuss over an energetic puppy, who has anxiously been waiting for someone to play with. And what about vacations? Do you have a family member or friend who is willing to pet-sit, or are you okay with the additional boarding expenses?
If you still think that getting a puppy for Christmas is a brilliant idea, I would encourage you to wait till after the holidays. Christmas can be a busy and overwhelming time, so please wait till after the chaos has settled. Keep in mind, it can be a quite stressful experience to the young animal as well. By taking your kids to the humane society (or responsible breeder), you will be teaching them a valuable lesson. And for goodness sake, please stay away from pet stores! Yes, they are convenient, but they are expensive and ALL their pets come from puppy mills, no matter what you’re told! No reputable breeder would let a pet store keep their puppy, which clearly indicates that the origin of those animals, is unfortunately not a cozy bed in someone’s home. Shelters are literally oozing with puppies, all kinds of breeds, in every size, shape and color imaginable (if looks are important to you). Another great source, is dog/cat rescues, which are easily located online. Remember, for every pet you purchase, you are reducing the chances of a shelter animal’s chance at life. So please do your homework, act responsibly, be a great example and save a life! Do the right thing, and visit Petfinder today.
